Thing #2
Lets face it...Our kids are in the technology world and to keep their interest we must incorporate this into our curriculum!! I try to incorporate something new in my class every year. This year we blogged about our favorite authors. My children gave me much more than they would have with pencil and paper and they LOVED doing it. The only problem I faced was they do not have email addresses, so we blogged under my email. We also use IPods to help with reading..this is a technology that I think will become more computer based so our kids will have more access to this. Times are changing and so must the classroom. Our kids are using technology at home and are going to want to use this information in the classroom!!

My first graders are sometimes more technology savvy than I. I love your idea about blogging about the authors. We do many author studies during the year. My campus is not a title one campus, so we do not have the latest and greatest technology. Hopefully, we will be updated soon.

I agree with you 100%. No matter what their socioeconomic status, these kids have access to technology. We need to be using blogs, wikis, and podcasts to keep them interested. We need to work on incorporating technology into our weekly lesson plans. I did use spellingcity.com this year as well as we created video presentations, but I want to do much more.

ReplyDeleteI definitely feel that kids these days no matter what age know a lot more about technology than me. I am trying to keep up, but it keeps changing faster than I am able to learn what's new. I like the idea of blogging about authors. We do a lot of author studies throughout the school year. Maybe my first graders could create a blog about their favorite authors this year!
